Evolving Mastery: Advanced Pedagogy in Paris (2018/2019)
Five years after graduating from Master Roy Elghanayan’s very first European instructor course, our paths crossed again. In 2018, Roy returned to Europe to host a new instructor certification in Paris. Being the only remaining active instructor from that original 2013 cohort, I was deeply honored to receive a personal invitation from him to attend the new course as his guest.
That initial 2018 seminar brought together around 20 participants, serving as a refresher and a re-calibration of the foundational principles. Just one year later, in 2019, I returned to Paris for a much smaller, highly focused advanced course. While the physical mechanics and techniques were, as always, on an elite level, the true revelation of these two years lay elsewhere.
My biggest takeaways were the profound didactic nuances of teaching and leadership. Roy emphasized how to effectively run a professional academy, but more importantly, how to deeply connect with students. We focused heavily on the psychology of coaching: how to adapt complex, high-stress content to meet individuals exactly at their current physical and mental levels, and how to ensure that every single person in the room feels truly "seen" and understood.
In martial arts, it is easy to get lost in the physical execution. But these seminars in Paris solidified my core belief as a consultant: Real transformation doesn't happen through rigid techniques. It happens when you create a psychologically safe space where clients feel respected, heard, and individually guided. This pedagogical depth became the absolute standard for how we conduct our 1-on-1 Premium Coaching and Corporate Seminars today.
