Mastering Extreme Duress: Tactical Weapon Instructor Course (2018)
In 2018, I decided to push my own professional boundaries by completing a highly specialized Weapon Instructor Course under Michael Rüppel. This elite certification is primarily designed for law enforcement and security professionals who carry a service weapon - individuals who operate in high-risk environments where split-second decisions dictate the outcome of a crisis.
At first glance, this level of tactical training might seem far removed from the everyday realities of the executives, educators, and private individuals I coach. I do not teach weapon retention in the boardroom. However, my motivation for pursuing this certification was never solely about the physical mechanics. It was about studying the psychology of extreme stress.
When you train for scenarios involving firearms, the margin for error drops to zero. The training forces you to master completely clear communication amidst absolute chaos, to regulate massive adrenaline spikes, and - most importantly - to improvise instantly when a structured plan falls apart.
I continuously subject myself to these elite-level environments to understand the human nervous system at its absolute limit. The hard technical skills remain on the tactical range, but the profound mental lessons - rapid decision-making, maintaining cognitive clarity, and executing the "Mental Pivot" under severe pressure - are the exact principles I distill and transfer to my clients. To be the best possible guide for others, you must always remain a student of the extreme.
